It's Time for Walk MS 2012!
The rallying point of our movement, Walk MS 2012, will take
place at 11 locations throughout Illinois on Sunday, May 6. More than 12,000
walkers will participate this year making it once again one of the largest MS
walks in the country. Even better, two more Walk MS events will take place in Peoria and Urbana on Sunday,

Chicago, will be honored at this year’s Women on the Move Luncheon, to be held

Safe Patient Handling in Nursing Homes Bill Passes Both Houses Unanimously
On March 28, Greater Illinois Chapter staff and volunteers gathered in Springfield to lobby Illinois legislators on issues including Safe-Patient Handling in Nursing Homes and Gas Station Refueling Accessibility. Thanks to great work from all of our Illinois MS Activists, the Safe-Patient Handling in Nursing Homes bill passed both houses of the state legislature unanimously!
The Gas Station Refueling Accessibility Bill has now become HB4866 House Floor Amendment No. 1. Use the Action Alert link below to learn about HB4866 and send a message to your representative to ask them to support this important piece of legislation.

MS Wellness Summit in Peru on Saturday, May 19
The Chapter will hold a free, half-day wellness summit in Peru on Saturday, May 19. Experts including Rob Motl, PhD, University of Illinois, Kim McClintic, MS, RD, OSF Healthcare, Erin Kennedy, MS, PT, OSF Healthcare, and Atsuko Cummins, Tai Chi Instructor, Taoist Tai Chi Society, will help people living with MS and their families develop more confidence in their abilities to understand and learn about wellness with MS.

Next "Meeting the Challenges of MS" Workshop Series for Care Partners Begins May 30 in Algonquin
Register now for the next round of our special, five-week workshop series for care partners. Learn to feel more confident in your abilities to provide support and assistance to persons with MS, while taking care of your own health and well-being. The series begins Wednesday, May 30 in Algonquin and meets weekly on Wednesday evenings through June 27.

Be a Successful Community Fundraiser Like Linda Zaban
Linda Zaban, diagnosed with MS in 2000, hosted her first Zumba fundraiser February 5 at the Buffalo Grove Fitness Center. Consisting of two hours of Zumba dancing, refreshments, and a raffle, the event was a great success--attracting 220 attendees and raising $3,000 for the movement to end MS. Way to go Linda!

National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day Is Saturday, April 28
The US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has scheduled a National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, April 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is a great opportunity to safely dispose of unused, unwanted, and/or expired prescription medications instead of throwing them into the regular trash--or leaving them lying around. Drop-off points include police departments throughout Illinois. Use the links below to read more about the program and find a drop-off location near you.
